2023 U.S. pension risk transfer sales hit $45.8 billion
According to the Life Insurance Marketing and Research Association (LIMRA) U.S. pension risk transfer (PRT) volumes hit $45.8 billion. While this is 13% lower than the record set in 2022 ($48.3 billion), it does represent the second highest annual sales since LIMRA began tracking U.S. PRT transactions in 2016. According to Aon’s latest U.S. Pension Risk Transfer Report, the PRT market volumes will likely exceed $40 billion in premiums in 2024, attributed to funded status improvement, rising interest rates and increasing Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) premiums. https://assets.aon.com/-/media/files/aon/reports/2024/us-pension-risk-transfer-report.pdf [LIMRA and Aon]
